There is no plausible explanation other than that, just sayin'. I curse, cry, and become willing to bargain my soul more during packing than any other time! I can just imagine Crowley making a comment about that now...
Good Omens is one of those books I'd like to make everyone read. Granted, a lot of the people I know have read it but it's the kind of book I'd probably get in a lot of trouble for giving to a teenage cousin. "But they have to read this— they just have to!"
Anyway, there has been some packing and even a little unpacking. None of course, done in the schedule I so carefully created a few weeks ago. I know that's a big surprise to everyone. (The devil's other instrument is Instagram, I betcha.)

Doesn't everyone label their book boxes by genre? |
But the big, ugly, sweaty U-Haul fiasco is going to be this weekend. If anyone sees an explosion across the Baltimore skyline it's me and I've napalmed the whole neighborhood.
Is it clear that I hate moving? I do, however, love unpacking!
Dante: You hate people! Randal: But I love gatherings. Isn't it ironic? |
Let's do a Before and After reveal.
Unfortunately this is the only non-blurry shot I have of the kitchen before we set to work. But who doesn't love a panorama? It's so exciting!
So you can see that the counter space is quite limited. Thankfully I already have a kitchen island I can park in the middle to use for prep. Also note the lack of dishwasher which will cut down on me using tiny bowls for all the ingredients and pretending to be Ina Garten.
All of those cabinets are deep, too — 15"! I can fit two rows of my green stackable plastic baskets easily. And then there's that teeny tiny shelf above the sink that is maybe 2.5" What can put it there, a home for Borrowers?

I got these from C&B a year or two ago. It looks like they only have the orange these days. |
As you can also see we are going to have to find storage for our pots and pans. On Sunday we took a trip to the suburbs for wilds of Ikea. I was very well behaved as my husband can attest. We came out with a pair of Bygel rails and three Fintorp caddies to keep all of the utensils (spatulas, whisks, etc). When we went to install them we discovered that all of the walls in the kitchen are solid brick which necessitates a masonry bit. That proved a little frustrating but this also means that we could, in good faith, hang our pots and pans if we so desire.
If at all possible I would like to avoid peg board because the tiny holes give me the willies. So I will be researching options now and putting up a bunch of inspiration photos on Pinterest.
